Babies, Babies, and more Babies

Wow!! We have babies galore!!!

The deer have been dropping babies left and right around here. We have 4 new blackbuck babies. They are little. So cute!

One of the red deer had her baby. It’s cute too. Reddish brown with spots on the upper back and sides. I have a white fallow doe that had her baby too. The baby is mostly white, but the upper back and sides are a light tan with white spots. It’s precious!!

I’m thinking that one of our elk cow’s might have had her baby. She hasn’t been seen lately. Probably bedded up with her baby. Can’t wait to see it.

The blackbuck herd has been coming into the pasture by the house every evening here lately. They eat a little and lay around alot. Its neat to see them so close.

We have an over population of coons here lately. One of them is huge!! Big ol’ coon. There’s a white porcupine and a black one too. We even saw a black “cat” on camera too. Not a house cat either. A mountain lion, I suppose. He needs to go. He might try to get one of the babies.  I thought my female oryx was pregnant, but now I’m not sure. The male has a bigger pot belly than she does. LOL!

There are several more red deer still pregnant. Oh yeah, we have an axis baby too. I haven’t been able to get a good picture of it yet. Always behind it’s mom on the camera.

We have several nice axis bucks. One is HUGE!!!  Very nice buck!  The fallow bucks are still in velvet and growing nicely.

We are taking all of the sheep to the auction this month. They eat too much!!! Our deer have to compete for the food with them around, so we have penned them waiting for auction. Besides eating a lot, they kept knocking over the feeders and eating all the food in one day. That gets expensive fast!! So they gotta go!!!

Until next time, have a nice day!

Those darn sheep

We have rams, sheep.  They have been living up to their name, rams. More like ramming. Constantly ramming the feeders to make the feed come out some more. Grrrrrrrr!!! If their not ramming each other their ramming the feeders.  Did I mention, they eat 24/7. Maybe their pigs!!! LOL!  Pigsheep. Do they ever get full?

Oh well, at least they are growing some beautiful horns. That’s the point, right? I hope so.  Oh yeah, their other favorite pasttime. Well let’s just say, their multiplying at great speed, and leave it at that.

The babies are cute!! But, guess what? They grow up to ram things too!!! And eat!!!

Axis Doe

Wow! We were out in the pasture putting out feed and fresh water and this axis doe came up and started eating around us. That never happens!!! They are usually very skiddish. She is pregnant though. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not, but it was awesome. She is pretty. I guess its possible she knows the sound of our polaris ranger by now and knows that we’re there to feed and water. I don’t know. It wasn’t a one time thing. She has come up several times now while we are feeding. I can’t wait to see her baby. Hopefully she’ll still come around.

We have a fallow doe that will almost eat out of your hand, not quite, but very close. She is very pregnant too. The fallow bucks are starting to grow their horns back. I can’t wait to see how big they’ll get this year. They were nice last year, so they should be quite awesome this year.

Exotic Population Explosion

Wow!! Almost all of our exotic female animals are pregnant. We have some red deer hinds and a couple of Elk cows. A few of them look like they’re about to explode!!! lol!! Miserable I’m sure.We have several blackbuck fawns. They are soooo cute! Small too! The bucks are nice too! A few more of the females are still pregnant.

Several of the fallow does are also pregnant. The bucks have shed their horns and are starting to “sprout” new ones. We have all white fallow bucks. We had a spotted fallow buck, but he got dead, if you know what I mean. So we only have white ones left, and they are a pretty white, not pale or dirty looking. Speaking of pretty white, our Scimitar Horned Oryx are beautiful. The female is pregnant, due in June I hope, maybe July 2009. Her horns are longer than the males and they spread out farther than his. His horns go straight back. He has beautiful tan markings on his neck. Darker than the females, which is typical I think. For some reason, the male species is always prettier in animals. Notice I said in animals, ha ha!!!

Speaking of Awesome!!! The Axis bucks are beautiful also. Their spots are definite. We have a few with hard horns and a few still growing in velvet. Awesome racks!! The does are also pregnant, and we have one new fawn so far. They are very elusive. Which is a trademark of theirs, so I’m told.

We have some Rams also. Texas Dall, Desert Paint, Black-bellied Barbado, Black Hawaiian, Corsican. Wow!! They have been eating out of the protein feeder and MAN, their horns have grown. All I can say is WOW!!
